Genesis

The word genesis brings to mind the beginning of everything- the rise of the sun, the land collapsing- dividing to create, the freshly fallen snow, a little sapling bursting forth from the packed soil- something beautiful emerging from nothing at all. Everyone has their own beginnings- each unique, but each giving birth to an idea, a wonder, a question . As you start out a new chapter in your life, it’s important to understand the importance of a good beginning as those are what lead to a good ending.

A Study in Magic

Miracles, myths, spells and Harry Potter, the month of magic deals with those outside the mundane. The flap of a wing, the glimmer of pixie dust, each day a little more full of hope, happiness and dreams. It tends to shift our realities into unknowns, Taking us to different worlds filled with wonder and mystery. Magic is that which we know not of, but also that which exists in our very beings. Every smile freely given, the glow within our eyes, the dust motes that shine just right- anywhere you look, we are witnessing something enchanting.

Epiphany

From the invention of the bulb to Archimedes being naked in a bathtub, humanity has evolved through different stages of history to advance to the stage we are at today due to epiphanies. An epiphany is a moment of realisation that dawns upon the human mind. The thought that cracks like a whip against barren land, a thought that makes you realise that you are on the precipice of something great- something beyond you- something that will last forever. You create your legacy- you begin with an epiphany.

Bloom

It’s that one song you listen to when you’re falling in love, and the same song you listen to after you fall out of it. It’s not always kind to you, blooming. It probably never is most of the time, maybe because you owe it to yourself to see who you are, love who you are, and that sometimes means leaving the grey, weary, sullen landscape you’re used to, the one that made you feel like you never quite belonged but you couldn’t help but stay because you could never imagine life without; a sort of uncertainty and discomfort. To change is to accept, to bloom is to accept and sometimes one just needs to step on the Bifrost and leave their jagged past behind and start anew, after all everyone deserves to grow comfortably in a place they feel like they belong, don’t they?

Love & Identity

Created to be embraced in the warmth of a gentle hold, of feather light feelings and syrup sweet words, what are we if not little collectors? Picking each thread of love and weaving them together tenderly- merging them into ourselves. Until we are entirely what we were given, and brimming with comfort we yearn to give away.

Women in Literature

From vain, weak, and emotional damsels in distress to daring, creative and resilient female protagonists, this month highlights the influence of women in literature on a language that has been shaped by the male perspective for far too long. It’s about finding a new narrative to express womanhood in a way that is empowering rather than restricting and allowing women to be seen – flaws and all.

Epilogue

The beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning - it all depends on how you perceive it. This is the one that’s going to stick by you. A sweet reminder of everything – the start of it all, the magic you experienced, the realisation that this was unlike anything you’ve read or experienced before. The acknowledgement of your beauty and growth with us, the sweet love and self-acceptance that came with it because you learn to choose yourself, and the reminders of a beautiful journey and a thousand precious moments which will stay with you and us.

This issue is a year-end compilation of  previous submissions.
